Privacy Policy
Effective Date: [insert date before publishing]
By using our Website or services, you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Website or services.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide Directly
- Booking details — name, phone number, pickup/drop-off locations, travel dates, and any special requests you share when making a reservation via our website, WhatsApp, phone, or email.
- Contact form / enquiry submissions — name, email address, and message content.
- Driver Partner Registration — if you apply to drive with us, we collect the details submitted on that application (name, contact details, vehicle information, and any documents provided).
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Website usage data — pages visited, time on site, browser type, device type, and approximate location (via IP address), collected through standard analytics tools.
- Location data — if you use our online booking tool with location autocomplete (powered by Google Places), the addresses you search or select are processed to complete your booking.
- Cookies — see our separate Cookie Policy for full details on what cookies we use and how to manage them.
1.3 Information We Do Not Collect
We do not collect payment card details through our Website. Fares are settled in person with the driver (primarily cash), or, where a payment gateway is offered, that transaction is handled directly by the third-party payment provider under its own privacy terms — see our Payment Options page.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use the information we collect to:
- Process and confirm your taxi, transfer, or tour booking, and match you with an available driver.
- Communicate with you about your booking (confirmations, driver details, changes, or delays).
- Respond to enquiries sent via our contact form, WhatsApp, or email.
- Review and process Driver Partner applications.
- Improve our Website, services, and customer experience.
- Comply with legal obligations under Sri Lankan law.
We do not sell your personal information to third parties.
3. How We Share Your Information
- With drivers — to fulfil a booking, we share the necessary trip details (name, phone number, pickup/drop-off location) with the driver assigned to your journey. As explained in our Terms and Conditions, drivers are independent operators, not Ceylon Taxi employees.
- With service providers — we may use third-party tools (such as Google Places for location search, and website hosting/analytics providers) that process limited data on our behalf, solely to operate the Website.
- For legal reasons — if required by law, court order, or to protect the rights, safety, or property of Ceylon Taxi, our drivers, or our passengers.
We do not share your information with third parties for their own marketing purposes.
4. Data Retention
We retain booking and enquiry information for as long as reasonably necessary to fulfil the purpose it was collected for (including responding to follow-up questions or disputes), and thereafter only as required to meet legal, accounting, or reporting obligations.
5. Your Rights
Depending on applicable law, you may have the right to:
- Request access to the personal information we hold about you.
- Request correction of inaccurate information.
- Request deletion of your information, where we are not otherwise required to retain it.
- Withdraw consent for optional communications (e.g. marketing messages) at any time.
To exercise any of these rights, contact us using the details in Section 7.
6. Data Security
We take reasonable technical and organizational measures to protect your information against unauthorized access, loss, or misuse. However, no method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
7. Contact Us
If you have questions about this Privacy Policy or how your information is handled, contact us:
8. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal reasons. Any changes will be posted on this page with a revised effective date. Continued use of the Website after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
9. Governing Law
This Privacy Policy is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of Sri Lanka.
