When To Go
Morning safaris (starting around 5:30–6:00am) are generally best for animal activity, since many species are more active in the cooler early hours before the midday heat. Afternoon safaris (starting around 2:00pm) are the alternative for travelers who prefer not to start before dawn. Advance booking is recommended for Yala during peak season (February–April) and for "The Gathering" at Minneriya (August–September) — other parks like Udawalawe and Wilpattu are usually fine to book a day ahead.
What To Bring
